A Penticton man's vehicle is a write-off after thieves took his Smart car off-roading.

The owner is also missing items of sentimental value, following the overnight theft.

According to RCMP Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth, the yellow Smart car was stolen from Saliken Drive in Penticton and later found on Cartwright Avenue in Summerland.

The thieves, who were basically offroading in the vehicle, drove it at high speed into some curbing. The airbags were deployed.

Four males, who were heard being boisterous in the area, departed in a pickup truck.

The owner says not only was his vehicle badly damaged, but he is missing a cross that had sentimental value. Some important strata papers were also taken from the car.

The theft remains under investigation.
