Pool shut down

The Penticton Community Centre annual pool shutdown began Monday and will last for seven weeks.

The shutdown has been extended to accomodate tile replacement.

Council voted last August to close the aquatics area from July 27 to Sept. 13 for the replacement project.

It has been considered a priority because of reports of slips and falls on the slippery pool deck.

In addition, the annual cost to maintain the existing tiles was more than simply making the fix.

Council looked at two options: to do the work during the summer weeks or from Nov. 17, 2014, to Jan. 4, 2015.

They chose to go with the summer because it would have less of an impact on customers and revenue.

During the shutdown, the community centre and fitness room operating hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday and Sunday.

The community centre will also be closed on all statutory holidays.
