Cruising Main Street

Nothing quite says summer like hopping in a custom car with your gal and cruising with the windows down.

The only thing that could make it better would be having a big appreciative audience.

That's how it was, Friday evening, during the Peach City Beach Cruise parade down Penticton's Main Street.

"I like all the cars, and you just realize how much effort goes into restoring them," said Leone, a Penticton resident as she stood watching the parade. "And it just brings that summer feeling to town."

The entire event will feature vintage and collector vehicles, as well as hot rods and custom cars from western Canada, the U.S. Northwest and as far away as Arizona and Texas.

As an added feature this year, the show includes six “Big Rigs," including a vintage Kenworth truck and several vintage Motorhomes.

“Show” vehicles will be on display the entire length of Lakeshore Drive as well as in Rotary Park and Lakawana Park, Friday through until Sunday noon.

And, on Saturday, the 2015 “Supercar Tour” will visit.

The tour includes exotic cars such as the AMG Mercedes and Aston Martin.

Last year’s cruise attracted more than 600 cars and registrations to date indicate those numbers will be exceeded.

Other highlights are: "The “Old Boys with Old Toys” will return with their display of vintage tractors, machinery, and stationary engines in Lakawana Park.

And Mackee Auctions has again partnered with the cruise to present a “southern style,” Collector Car Auction, located in the parking lot of the Penticton Lakeside Resort and Convention Centre.

Car owners have also been encouraged to dress in period clothes, appropriate to the vintage of their cars. There will be prizes for the best costumes.

"I just love seeing all the different restoration jobs, the paint jobs, the work on the interiors and talking to people about how long it has taken them to rebuild," said Vivian Lenardon, who was attending the event for the first time.

The event is presented annually by the Penticton Historic Automobile Society.
