Peach City Radio awards

Penticton's Peach City Radio (CFUZ) continues to garner recognition, even though it is not yet broadcasting on the FM dial.

The recognition took place June 6, when the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) held its annual awards gala at the UNB Grand Hall in downtown Saint John, New Brunswick

CFUZ vice president, and show host Timothy Tweed (a.k.a. “Tenacious T”) captured the award for best music program nationally for his music series “Sounds from the Tenacious Hi‐Fi."

"Tim is a dedicated volunteer, board member and host and producer of one of our longest running programs ‐ he makes his podcast in his own home, on his own equipment ‐ because we don't even have a studio yet," said society president Dave Del Rizzo, who accepted the award on Tweed's behalf in Saint John. "We just got our license approval a month ago, and I’m confident that this award is an indication of the great things to come from Peach City Radio in the future."

In addition,  Del Rizzo received an honourable mention in the category of volunteer of the year at the annual awards gala.

“Of our entire group of community radio volunteers here in Penticton, no one has spent more time and effort than our leader Dave Del Rizzo," said programmer Ian Mackinder. "He does so much – web design, committee chairing, sound engineering, policy writing, DJ’ing and more. He’s a great guy ‐ a leader, a visionary, and the hardest working man in community radio – plus, he has a great beard."

The NCRA organization boasts over 6000 volunteers nationwide. The annual conference, held in June, is hosted by a different member station each year.

This year's event was hosted by local FM (CFMH) in Saint John.

In 2016, the conference will be hosted in Ottawa by CHUO, and in 2017 the conference returns to B.C., being hosted by CIVL in Abbotsford.
