City manager resigns

Penticton city officials have confirmed that Chuck Loewen has resigned as the interim chief administration officer and general manager of recreation and facilities.

His last day will be June 18, according to communications officer Simone Blais.

Loewen was with the city for four years. He became interim CAO when Annette Antoniak moved on.

Mayor Andrew Jakubeit said Loewen's accomplishments with the city include cutting the South Okanagan Events Centre deficit in half and taking the subsidy at the community centre from $1.2 million to just shy of $240,000.

"He will be missed, obviously," said Jakubeit. "We recognize we are a medium-sized city and a stepping stone for bigger and better things, and we wish him all the best."

Jakubeit said the search for a new CAO is going well. They are just going through interviews now and are "very impressed" with the calibre of candidates.

The city hopes to announce who the replacement is by the end of this month and have that individual in place by the end of summer.

Mitch Moroziuk, the city's director of operations, will be the new interim CAO.
