Stove sparks fire

Penticton fire crews rushed to the scene of a kitchen fire Sunday evening in the 100 block of Secrest Avenue.

The call came into dispatch at 6:06 p.m.

“The stove caught some articles that were set on top of the stove on fire, and then it extended into the rest of the kitchen,” explains fire captain Dennis Noble.

Four residents were home at the time and were able to get out safely, after the homeowner attempted to put out the fire himself.

“He tried putting it out on his own, but when he realized he was losing the battle he did get out of the house,” says Noble. “He suffered from smoke inhalation and was transported by ambulance to the hospital for observation.”

There was extensive damage to the kitchen area and Noble says the residents were forced to find alternative accommodations for Sunday evening.
