Council sucks limes

Penticton council and staff all had a sour face following Monday's meeting, but this time it was for a good reason.

The council members were the latest city group to take the Lyme Sucks Challenge, designed to draw attention to Lyme Disease, a tick-borne illness.

Penticton resident Sue McDougall, wearing a t-shirt saying "ticked off with Lyme Disease," told city officials they had been challenged by radio personality Dennis Walker and other to do the challenge before she passed limes around.

She and fellow advocate Jim Wilson were also part of a delegation attending the meeting to proclaim the month of May, Lyme Disease awareness month for the city of Penticton.

In April, the RCMP and fire department also participated in the effort before extending the challenge to others.

After munching on the sour limes, council extended the challenge to Oliver, Osoyoos and Keremeos councils.
