Helicopter rescue at bluffs

A man was rescued from the Skaha Bluffs area by helicopter Thursday afternoon.

Penticton Search and Rescue were called out by B.C. Ambulance about noon to attend to an injured hiker who was with a group of backcountry recreational guides when he suffered a suspected broken leg.

Richard Terry says the most effective way to evacuate the 30-year-old man, from Nova Scotia, was to utilize a long line or HETS team.

"Two HETS team members on a Eclipse helicopter were dispatched to the scene, where the subject was packaged and airlifted back to the Penticton Airport ... he was transferred to the ambulance service and taken to Penticton Regional Hospital.”

The man remains in hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.
