DPA lawsuit resolved

A wrongful dismissal claim filed by a Penticton event organizer against her former employer has been dealt with.

According to a court document dated April 9, 2015 and obtained by Castanet, Laurel Burnham and the Downtown Penticton Association have resolved their issue.

Burnham previously worked as the community market manager for the DPA.

According to information in the claim filed on Jan. 19, Burnham entered into a contract with the DPA about July 12, 2008, that included the following terms: she was to assist in the planning and implementation of the market and was to be paid 50 per cent of all vendor market fees.

In May of 2013, she was subsequently hired as the full-time manager of the market.

Burnham claims she diligently performed all duties on behalf of the DPA until her job was terminated on or about Oct. 20, 2014.

Burnham, who was asking for $25,000 in damages, claims she suffered stress, anxiety, humiliation, embarassment and financial distress as a result.

Burnham and the DPA could not immediately be reached for comment on the reasons why the matter was resolved.
