Guilty plea in child sex case

The man accused of several sex-related charges involving a minor has pleaded guilty in Penticton Provincial Court.

Joshua James Roberts, a 38-year-old Summerland businessman, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation this morning due to a relationship he had with a teenaged girl.

According to his lawyer Tyrone Duerr, he had been a person in a position of trust, who touched that person for sexual purposes.

He had been facing other charges, including child luring, possession of child pornography, invitation to sexual touching and assault with a weapon.

Those other counts will be stayed.

The timeline related to count one was also narrowed down to be between Sept. 15, 2012 and Aug. 15, 2013.

Roberts was originally arrested by RCMP last October.

A pre-sentence report has been ordered, in addition to a psychiatric assessment.
