Website posts naked truth on beach

Although it's the middle of winter, concerns over use of a popular Penticton beach by naturists don't appear to be going away.

A website titled 3milebeach.com shows pictures and videos of people walking around fences and past no trespassing signs at Three Mile Beach. While most of the people are wearing shorts and other warm weather garb, some are not wearing anything.

"The website went up because people were illegally exposing themselves on private and public property. There are recorded incidents of vandalism and theft," said an unnamed person involved with the site. "None of the people in the videos live in the area. The neighbourhood does not want this group and they simply want to protect their children in this residential community."

Naturists moved to the public beach this summer after losing access to the adjacent private property they used for years.

In response, they also started an online petition at the 3 Mile Clothing Optional Beach Facebook page.

On that page it states: "this beach has been known as an unofficial clothing optional destination since the 1950s. We are wanting to ensure it remains as such."

Naturists who use the beach could not immediately be reached for comment.

Both the Penticton RCMP and city officials are aware of the situation.

Mayor Andrew Jakubeit said he knows the issue is still out there and that he imagines council will be tasked to deal with it, most likely in the spring.

"I would think the neighbours will want to bring it to council's attention sooner than later," he said.
