Art house art show

A local artist’s collective is opening their doors to the public, with an opening reception slated for 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29.

Artwork from member artists Shayn Hagel, Liz Marshall, Derrie Selles, and Jessie Dunlop will be on display at Art House Penticton. Visitors will also be invited to view some of the working studios of the artists.

“This is such a fantastic space. We just want to share it, and to let other people know it is here," said Hagel, who has produced 20 large scale artworks for the exhibit. “I have put my heart and soul into these works, I just hope that the guests will enjoy them."

Art House is a local collective with emerging artists from all over Canada, and as far afield as England. The space is located in an old warehouse on the Penticton industrial estate. It is unique in that it allows new artists to come together and learn from one another..

Visitors will have the opportunity to win a piece of art from emerging artists, and help the community too. Each artist is offering original artwork as a prize to be raffled off at the end of the exhibition, with all proceeds being donated to the Penticton & District Community Resources Society (PDCRS) charity for their Family Assistance Program Fund.

"We are so pleased that the arts community is pulling together to support children and their families in such a creative way," said Tanya Behardien, executive director of the society. "The generosity of the artists and the arts community will go a long way in supporting our children’s programs and services.  We can all use a little help from time to time and the funds raised from this event will directly benefit the children and families we serve.”

The Art House art show and open house will last for the whole weekend, giving viewers a chance to visit on Sunday, too, from 12 to 6 p.m.

Artworks will be available to purchase via cash or cheque. The artists are also accepting donations for the PDCRS Family Assistance Program Fund.

Art House Penticton is located at 2345 Government St. Parking is available in marked spots directly in front of the entrance, or street-side closer to Dawson Avenue.

The Exhibition runs Nov. 29 to Dec. 4.
