Beached boat & burning bush

The Naramata Fire Department was kept busy dealing with fires and boats set adrift in Monday's windstorm over the long weekend.

On Friday night, they were called out around 9:30 p.m. after someone set the shrubs in front of the Naramata Pub on fire, according to Fire Chief Tony Trovao.

Pub patrons put the fire out, and told the fire department a heavy set man was suspected of starting the fire. The RCMP was also at the scene.

Then Monday afternoon, around 4:30 p.m., a couple of boats moored on Okangan Lake became loose in the high winds and they were bumping into each other, Trovao said.

In addition, another boat  escaped its moorings and floated onto Manitou Beach.

As of Wednesday morning the boat was still there, despite efforts to move it.

"It's wedged in there pretty good," said Trovao.

Trovao was not at the scene of the boating incident, but said from what he was told the water was the roughest responders had ever seen.
