United Way breakfast

The Penticton Lakeside Resort and the United Way will kick off the annual South Okanagan United Way Campaign with the 3rd Annual Drive Thru Breakfast on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

The breakfast will be held between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., with the main entrance at Penticton Lakeside Resort transformed into a Drive Thru experience.

More than 850 breakfast bags, sponsored by Valley First Credit Union, will be handed out by volunteers to “Drive Thru guests”, in exchange for donations in support of the local United Way and our local Community Partners.

The community is invited to drive, walk, blade or bike and enjoy numerous giveaways from local sponsors, hot breakfast sandwiches prepared by David Prystay, General Manager of the Penticton Lakeside Resort, coffee sponsored by McDonalds, a complimentary newspaper courtesy of the Penticton Herald, and a breakfast bag filled with goodies from sponsors, too numerous to name them all.

Breakfast bags are valued at well over $100 each and there is a chance to win grand prizes hidden amongst the bags. Members of the Penticton Vees junior hockey team will also be on site to shine car windows

“The support from local businesses and volunteers has been overwhelming.  I am proud to live in a community that rallies together to support non-profits and vulnerable persons,” says Director of Resource Development, Jennifer Park.

This year, Smartbetty.com, an online daily deals site has partnered with the United Way to provide an additional opportunity for businesses to promote their products while raising money for the Drive Thru Breakfast. Ten per cent from each of these promotions online will benefit the local United Way.

With the incredible response from local community-minded businesses and the hard work and dedication of many volunteers, the hope is to top last year’s total and reach over $15,000 for local programs, services and the charities that receive funding and support from the United Way CSO.
