Jet hits deer while landing

A jet is in need of repairs, and a deer is no longer with us after being hit by the plane as it landed in Princeton Monday morning.

"A Kal Tire jet landed and a deer was going across the runway. When they landed, they clipped it," says Rick Zerr, chief administrative officer for the Town of Princeton. "There is a little bit of damage on the jet. Nobody was hurt and everything is intact except for the deer."

Kal Tire flies into Princeton quite regularly as they help service the Copper Mountain Mine and Weyerhauser, Zerr says. Aircraft mechanics are coming in from Penticton or Kelowna to look over the jet.

"They will determine whether it has to be repaired here or if it can be taken back to a more major airport. If they can fly, they will fly it out and if not they will make the necessary repairs here."

The body of the plane hit the deer and carried it down the runway while it finished landing.

"I guess there's a dent in the side of (the plane)," he said.
