Gathering planned at City Hall

The people behind a new Facebook group seeking change in Penticton are now taking their message to the streets.

A gathering is planned for 5:30 p.m. today (Monday) at City Hall, so people who have been expressing their thoughts at #TimeForChangePenticton can actually meet in person.

"It's about meeting one another, distributing the new shirts and then attending the council meeting, so the council can see we are living, breathing concerned citizens, not just a Facebook group," said co-organizer Jennifer Taylor.

The group was recently created to get more young people, as well as those wanting change, to come out and vote in the upcoming municipal election and discuss city issues.

A catalyst for the group's creation was a statement made by Councillor Katie Robinson, who said she didn't attend the recent Boonstock music festival because she wasn't a "Head Banging Druggie."

But the movement has grown to be much more than that, according to Taylor.

"We are getting bigger and stronger, as opposed to just being a Facebook group," she said.

The new shirts to be distributed say, "Head Banging Druggie #TimeForChangePenticton."

The gathering will take place prior to tonight's city council meeting.
