Osoyoos RCMP report

The Osoyoos RCMP has been busy responding to motor vehicle incidents in recent days.

On July 26, officers dealt with a vehicle collision on Highway 3 near Vineyard Road. A BMW X5 pulling a boat on a trailer was travelling on Highway 3 in the slow lane when a deer jumped out front and struck the vehicle. The collision pushed the BMW into the fast lane. A Honda Accord driving in the same direction in the fast lane was unable to avoid the BMW and ended up striking the rear of the boat.

There were no injuries, but the Honda received damage and was not longer drivable. A search for the injured deer was unsuccessful as it ran from the scene.

That same day, an attending officer smelled a strong odour of marijuana coming from a car during a vehicle stop. A search of the vehicle and occupants revealed six grams of dried marijuana. One of the occupants claimed to have a medical marijuana possession license, but it was learned the license was not valid and had been issued by a third party. The marijuana was subsequently seized for destruction.

On July 27, the RCMP received a report of damage to an orchard on 87th Street. It was clear a vehicle had driven off the road and into the orchard, damaging several trees prior to departure. A bumper and license plate had broken free of the vehicle and were left at the scene.

Police located the vehicle at the registered owner's residence in Osoyoos. The owner is facing a charge of failing to remain at the scene of the accident and failing to report the accident which caused significant damage to the orchard.

If anyone has information on crimes, please call the Osoyoos RCMP at (250) 495-7236 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
