South Okanagan fire updates

July 21

Apex Mountain Fire - 9:30 a.m. update:

This fire has been more accurately calculated at 344 hectares and is approximately 60 per cent contained.

The threat to Public Safety has not changed due to the erratic behaviour of the fire at night and the forecast of strong winds.

Even though the guards held the fire during Sunday afternoon’s wind gusts, the evacuation alert needs to remain in place for the 13 previously identified properties.

Jura Fire – 9:30 a.m. update:

The fire has been measured at 460 hectares. Forestry crews, air and ground support were able to make good progress over the weekend, and are calling the fire 70 per cent contained.

As a precautionary safeguard, the evacuation alert remains for the 606 previously identified properties and crews will re-assess again later today.

Boot Hill Fire (aka Nickelplate) – 9:30 a.m. update:

There is no significant change from yesterday. This fire has also been recalculated to measure 100 hectares in size (down from 138 hectares) with 50 per cent containment.

Crews have continued working on building a guard around the perimeter. Public Safety has not changed.

There are no evacuation alerts.
