Teneycke to serve more time behind bars
Sep 30, 2013 / 3:17 pm
Convicted sex offender Ronald Teneycke was sentenced to six months in jail less time served, in a Penticton courtroom on Monday.
Including his time already spent behind bars, Teneycke has 133 days left on his sentence and then must obey the conditions of a three-year probation order.
Since the crown got all protective conditions in the probation order that it was seeking in the 810.2 recognizance, that application has been abandoned, according to crown counsel John Swanson.
Teneycke plead guilty to two counts, including a breach of his bail and possession of methamphetamine, on Sept. 18 in Penticton.
Teneycke was arrested in June and put on bail with nine conditions for the 810.2 application. He breached those conditions, not long after in August.
The 810.2 is a preventive order where the crown thinks there is a real risk someone will cause real injury, Swanson said at an earlier court appearance by Teneycke in July.
The Okanagan Falls man was acquitted at the end of his trial in 2012, for allegedly sexually assaulting a Penticton woman at an isolated location in Okanagan Falls. He also has a lengthy criminal history including sexual offences.
Swanson has previously described him as an extremely violent sexual predator, who is at very high-risk to re-offend.
At prior court appearances, defence lawyer Michael Welsh argued that his client did make efforts to obtain programming in the federal prison system and that his record for the last 20 years has not been at the serious end of the spectrum.
