Work to start on KVR in Naramata
Sep 28, 2013 / 5:00 am
Resurfacing work is slated to start on the section of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail between Arawana Road and the Little Tunnel in Naramata next week.
Preparation work is now underway, with the actual construction starting Monday and lasting until Friday.
"It is to provide a good consistent surface for the many different trail activity uses," said Justin Shuttleworth, parks and facilities coordinator for the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen.
The resurfacing will be done using a recycled asphalt and aggregate mix, similar to the product used on the KVR trail from Arawana south to Penticton in recent years.
The effort is a provincial project, which is being managed by the RDOS.
"We are in a partnership, looking after it on the ground level," said Shuttleworth.
During the construction next week, the trail will be closed to vehicles and motorized traffic. Shuttleworth said they are also recommending that cyclists and pedestrians stay away, although it is not officially closed to them.
"If someone is on the trail, we ask they pay attention to the signs and the crews that are working," he said.
When this project is completed, motorized vehicles will again be allowed on the trail, he added.
