Penticton and South Okanagan
Hands up for world record at SOEC
Sep 24, 2013 / 4:57 pm
The South Okanagan Events Centre is inviting area residents to participate in a Guinness World Records attempt, for the most simultaneous high-fives prior to the Penticton Vees' season home opener on Friday, Sept. 27.
Participants are asked to arrive between 5 and 5:45 p.m. at Gate 1 Plaza at the SOEC on Eckhardt Avenue.
At exactly 5:55 p.m., an aerial photo and video will be taken to document participants as they attempt to break the simultaneous high-five record.
The symbolic gesture is in support of the building's five year anniversary. It also marks the fifth year of the Vees' tenancy at the SOEC, according to staff from Global Spectrum Facility Management, which manages the facilitty.
The current record for the most people high-fiving at the same time is 4,699, achieved by The Kroger Co. at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky on April 16, 2013.
Festivities will continue inside, with the puck dropping for the home-opener at 7 p.m.
