Penticton council highlights
Sep 23, 2013 / 11:13 am
Traffic calming at Parkway Elementary School and a public hearing on construction of a liquor store next to the existing gas bar at Cherry Lane Shopping Centre, will be among the highlights of tonight's, Monday, Penticton council meeting.
Staff recommendation is council direct them to install the Stage 1, temporary Parkway School traffic calming measures using delineators and temporary speed humps with changes resulting from meeting with the public.
The changes include: Installing temporary speed humps at the east and west end of the school zone on Kinney and at the south end of the zone on McGraw, adding a tag on the no parking signs indicating that this area can be used for pick up and drop off of students and installing a school bus drop off zone.
"The council is definitely in favour of calming traffic at Parkway School," said Councillor Helena Konanz. "And these seem like suggestions we should definitely move forward on."
Other highlights are discussion of remedial action orders for 555 Wade Ave, recently declared a nuisance property in the city, a winery lounge and special event area at Painted Rock Winery and a transfer of location of the liquor primary club license for the Penticton Yacht and Tennis Club.
The community grant policy and 2013 Bike Network improvements are also on tonight's agenda.
Changes suggested to the bike network following recent public consultation include: in general, no green bike boxes being installed at this time, green bike lanes at intersections being installed as budget permits and addressing parking issues on the new suggested routes.
