Big turnout at Kidney Foundation event

There was a great turnout at Sunday’s fundraiser event for the Kidney Foundation held at Hwy. 97 and Westminster Avenue in Penticton.
Volunteer Annick Lim says it’s a busy and fun filled event.
“Today we are raising money for the kidney foundation, raising awareness for kidney health, registering people as organ donors, and a hosting a silent auction as well as a kids zone, and walks and runs”
She understands the importance of this foundation and it’s work as she is a survivor herself.
“I am living proof, I have a kidney transplant and I have had it for 14 years and without this important research you won’t have people surviving kidney disease.”
Ryan Neuberger was also at the event walking and fundraising for the cause, something that hits home for him.
“It means a lot to me because I did receive and transplant and I am very thankful for it.”
He says those years waiting for a transplant can be devastating but can also be worth it.
“Hang in there; hang in there, that’s the biggest thing I can say to those on dialysis. Don’t quit, be strong. I was on dialysis for two years and it was the toughest part of my life, sitting on a machine for five hours each time three days a week and it changes you, but hang in there because there is an ending,” shares Neuberger.
The goal of the day is to raise $60,000 for the provincial and national Kidney Foundation Charity.
“Every time we raise $100, $50 goes to national foundation, national means research and if there was no research then no one would be getting better. The other half goes towards patient services and volunteers provincially,” explains Lim
