YLW shuttle to Osoyoos, Oliver & more

A meeting in Penticton last week attended by South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce (SOCC) leaders and 45 interested parties to discuss a proposed daily shuttle service to run from Osoyoos to the Kelowna International Airport has resulted in a renewed thrust to get a much needed transportation link working by next year.
The shuttle would include stops in all communities en route along Highway 97 including Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Penticton and its Airport.
"There are more international and domestic flights out of Kelowna, but not always enough transportation available from the South Okanagan to get people to the airport," said SOCC president Holly Plante. "So we held the recent meeting to bring all of the stakeholders together."
The meeting, on September 12, was facilitated by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association with a presentation by Sam Samaddar, Kelowna Airport Manager who outlined the growth of both domestic and international traffic at his location and an analysis of South Okanagan traffic using air transportation.
The South Okanagan Chamber provided details of how ground transportation is provided at the moment and the need for improved service.
A committee, including representatives from hotels in the region, a representative from the chamber and other stakeholders, was created at the meeting.
The committee will meet and plan in the months ahead, with the goal of having this up and running by the spring of next year.
Plante said the effort was primarily being launched for visitors, but they want to make sure residents are included as well.
"I think that we live in one of the best places in the world," she said. "And we have to create a better model for people who want to get around."
