Penticton and South Okanagan
Lookout for this City project

The city of Penticton has big plans for a small piece of land that juts out on the east side of the Okanagan Lake waterfront.
Staff is ironing out the final details for the Marina Way Lookout.
"We are still working with waterfront groups on the final planning stages," said Simone Blais, the city's communications officer.
Public consultation on the lookout project took place in early August, and the feedback ranged from comments on parking, washroom facilities, lighting, support for environmental improvement and recognition of the area's heritage.
Among the plans for the area, just east of the Penticton Art Gallery, are environmental restoration, including planting trees and shrubs indigenous to the area to restore habitat, and removing undesirable and invasive plant species.
There will be picnic tables, as well as benches and pathway lighting and a heritage exhibit/lookout on the tip of the piece of land.
The idea originally came up as staff and council looked at the bigger picture of enhancing the City's waterfronts.
There was also a need to compensate for habitat loss, when work started on the west end of the lake's waterfront.
The heritage component was included because the location served as the primary gateway to accessing the original townsite, just to the east of Penticton Creek.
"We are ensuring there is habitat along Okanagan Lake, as well as tidying up the waterfront and honouring the heritage of the community," said Blais.
