Motorcyclist killed on Vancouver Island
Sep 3, 2013 / 8:22 am
A 34-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday night when he was broadsided by another vehicle in Nanaimo.
Tyler Edwards, who spent much of his life in Penticton, was taken to Nanaimo General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
RCMP say Edwards was riding a white Yamaha motorcycle north on Stewart Avenue around 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a red Jeep turning left from Townsite Road.
“I live just down the block here and I guess a red jeep pulled out and T-boned a guy on a bike and I guess it was a fatal accident. It was really sad, we came back here and his bike was crashed on the side of the road," says Chantal Poirier, who was in the area at the time of the crash.
RCMP say the motorcyclist was speeding, but the 61-year-old male driver of the Jeep was also taken to the Nanaimo detachment on suspicion of impaired driving.
The funeral will take place in Penticton.
