Fire 10th anniversary t-shirts for sale
Aug 23, 2013 / 11:00 am
Ten years ago the Naramata Fire Department did a fund-raising t-shirt project right after the devastating Okanagan Mountain Park Fire.
To commemorate the fire's 10th anniversary, members are again selling t-shirts to raise money for community organizations and projects.
"We did it back then, because there was so much support for the firefighters that we wanted to flip that back," said acting fire chief Tony Trovao. "They help us, we help them."
The fire department played an active role in battling the blaze, that started Aug. 16, 2003 at Okanagan Mountain Park.
Their duties ranged from aiding in evacuations to fighting the fire and assisting other firefighters who showed up from all over BC.
The shirts cost $20 each, and the proceeds will go to the Okanagan Similkameen Neurological Society and toward a dredging project at the Naramata marina.
The marina is where the fire department launches its rescue boat.
Firefighters will be selling the shirts at the Penticton Market, on the corner of Westminster Avenue and Main Street, on the next two Saturdays.
"Last time we sold 1,600 shirts. This time we hope to sell a minimum of 500," said Trovao.
