Winter photos on display

Photos of horses standing in snow-covered fields and other winter scenes will be on display this weekend in a first of its kind show at the Penticton mall.

"London Drugs Celebrates Local Photographers," a winter photography show, will take place Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre.

"It gives people the opportunity to meet photographers and talk about where they shot the photos," said Cathy Pires, the photo lab manager at London Drugs.

Pires created a spring show nine years ago to give local photographers a place to show their talent.

It was well received, so when someone approached her about doing a winter show, she was receptive to the idea.

Four photographers will be featured, as well as the Penticton Photography Club, which will show off works by members.

Local photographer Leo Kabos is looking forward to showcasing his work.

"I like taking close ups of nature," he said. "In winter, it's more stark, more revealing. There is a raw beauty, an icy elegance you can capture."

It's also nice to see what everyone else is doing and get inspiration, he added.

Pires says she too is looking forward to getting inspired.

"I am just really excited to see the beautiful winter photos that will be on display," she said. "And I can't wait to get out my camera this winter."

Those interested in seeing the show can meet and greet the photographers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday at centre court in the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre.
