Van catches fire

Penticton fire crews were called to a van fire, near the IGA on Government Street, just before the noon hour.

Mike Hockley was driving by when he noticed smoke and flames billowing out of the van.

"I pulled into the parking lot and emptied an extinguisher into the cab and put the flames out.

Hockley says he was shocked when a man, who's truck was parked beside the flaming van, ignored warnings and got into his vehicle.

"He went into the store, did his shopping, came out like nothing was happening and against all advice, climbed into his truck (18" away from the burning van) and drove away."

The fire department quickly extinguished the rest of the fire, but the van was heavily damaged.
