Hwy. 97 reopens

4 p.m. update:

The BC coroner's service has confirmed that a young man died in Penticton early Saturday morning. 

Around 3:30 a.m. RCMP were called to a motor vehicle accident. By 7:15 a.m. the scene had been cleared and traffic resumed.

No more details of the incident are available. 

12:30 p.m. update:

Penticton RCMP have handed this case off to the coroner's office. 

There are unconfirmed reports that a young man has died.

Highway 97 has reopened after an accident closed the route, in both directions, between Westminster Exit and Railway Street in Penticton.

DriveBC had estimated the route would be closed until noon.

The incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, by 7:15 the accident was cleared and the route was open.
