Osoyoos crash stalls traffic

A woman was rushed to hospital in Oliver following a head-on crash about four kilometers north of Osoyoos Friday afternoon.

An RCMP officer at the scene says the vehicles involved were a small black pickup and a small red Honda sedan.

He says the female driver of the Honda sustained “serious injuries” and was taken by ambulance to South Okanagan General Hospital.

Three occupants of the pickup suffered minor injuries but were also taken to Oliver for treatment.

A tow-truck driver at the scene tells Castanet that, “Apparently someone was trying to pass.” The section of Highway 97 where the accident occurred is twisting and marked with a double solid line.

Another witness says the woman driving erratically passed on right and then swerved into oncoming traffic.

The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. and had traffic badly backed up in both directions.
