The following information updates have been provided by the Regional District of the South Okanagan.
Update 9 p.m.
Apex Mountain Fire
No changes. Evacuation order remains in effect for at least another day.
Jura Fire
The fire has been measured at 460 hectares. The Forestry crews, air and ground support were able to make good progress on this fire today with literally zero growth and are now calling the fire 70% contained. As a precautionary safeguard, the evacuation alert remains for the 606 previously identified properties and we will re-assess again tomorrow. The winds were blowing in a northwest direction for most of today, but there is still a threat of stronger winds forecasted later today.
Boothill Fire (aka Nickelplate)
There is no significant change from yesterday. The fire remains at approximately 138 hectares with 30 per cent containment. Crews have continued working on building a guard around the perimeter. Public safety has not changed. There is no evacuation alerts associated with this incident.
Apex Mountain Fire
The fire remains approximately 313 hectares and is approximately 50% contained. The threat to public safety has not changed. The evacuation alert remains for the 13 previously identified properties.
Jura Fire
The fire is now approximately 450 hectares. The forestry crews, air and ground support were able to make good progress on this fire yesterday, but they lost some ground installing the guard and it is currently only 40 to 50% complete. The evacuation alert remains for the 606 previously identified properties and we will assess throughout the day. There is a threat of stronger winds forecast for later today in the area.
Boot Hill Fire (aka Nickleplate)
There is no significant change from yesterday. The fire remains at approximately 138 hectares with 30% containment. Crews have been working on building a guard around the perimeter with some resources been removed. Public safety has not changed. There is no evacuation alerts associated with this incident.
Campbell Mountain
The Campbell Mountain fire has been contained. It was 5 hectares in size but is now in the “mop up” stage.
