Rylan Hernberg hands out free flowers

Rylan Hernberg believes in performing random acts of kindness, and Friday he was out doing just that in Penticton.

Hernberg and friends spent most of the day giving away free flowers throughout the city.

"I am always looking for opportunities to do nice things, because it just feels good," said Hernberg, as he handed out carnations, roses and daisies on Main Street.

Hernberg, 34, said he got the idea for the flower giveaway on Pinterest.

He then posted on his Facebook page that he was going to put in $100 of his own money and if anyone else wanted to chip in to let him know.

He raised $315 and purchased 205 flowers, with $70 left over for other kind acts.

On Friday, the friends dropped off four dozen flowers and chocolates at Penticton Regional Hospital, for nurses and patients.

They also put money in candy and toy machines and parking meters, before doing the giveaway in downtown Penticton.

While some people walking by asked if there was a catch, most were pleasantly surprised.

"I love this. There are not enough things like this going on," said flower recipient Michelle Allsop. "It made my day, it really did."
