Flights impacted in Penticton

Air Canada confirmed Thursday that some of its flights into and out of Penticton will be impacted by the runway project this summer.

The airline was advised on June 20 by Transport Canada that Penticton Regional Airport, YYF, will be closed every evening starting July 3 until Aug. 31 from 10:45 p.m. to 6:45 a.m. for runway repair, said Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Mah.

"While we support Transport Canada's decision to renew the runway, we are disappointed the runway will be closed daily for eight consecutive hours which will impact this year's peak summer schedule, temporarily causing inconvenience to passengers," she said. "We regret the inconvenience to passengers that this later operational decision outside Air Canada's control will have."

With YYF closing at 10:45 p.m. each day, Air Canada's last flight from YVR-YYF, AC8356 each night is affected, she added. In order for AC8356 to arrive in YYF prior to 10:45 p.m., it will now depart YVR at 9:35 p.m., instead of the normal time of 10:45 p.m.

Air Canada's first flight departing YYF,  AC8351 will also now be departing 45 minutes later at 6:45 a.m. to accommodate the runway closure.

Early-ing up AC8356 means that evening connections from Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, Regina, Saskatoon, Victoria, Kelowna, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Kamloops, Terrace, Fort St. John, Cranbrook and Smithers will be affected, and customers connecting to YYF from these destinations will not be able to travel directly to YYF as originally expected.

Customers who are currently booked with a connection to AC8356, will be offered these alternatives:

-Air Canada will re-book affected connecting customers booked on AC8356 during this period over YLW, with ground transportation to YYF

Re-book affected connecting customers to an earlier time or on another day, space permitting on all flights on their itinerary

-Re-bookings will be done without additional fees/additional collection

-They may elect for a full refund if these options do not suit their travel requirements
