Former councillor's court date

The sentencing date for the former Penticton city councillor, who pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, is set for Aug. 11, according to Neil MacKenzie, communications counsel for the Criminal Justice Branch.

Gary Leaman entered the guilty plea on Jan. 29 during an arraignment hearing.

In early March, Judge Meg Shaw decided in a Penticton courtroom that there would be no restrictions on the publication of Leaman's name.

The names of the complainants cannot be published, in accordance with an original order.

Leaman was a councillor from 2002 to 2005, ran unsuccessfully for the mayor's chair in 2008 and for the council in 2011.

He retired in October of last year from his job as general manager of Cherry Lane Shopping Centre.
