Ex-councillor awaits sentence

The sentencing date for a former city councillor who pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, is likely to be set next week.

The Gary Leaman case was held over to June 16 to fix a date for sentencing, after a brief hearing Wednesday morning in Penticton court.

In March, the case was adjourned to today, June 11, to receive a psychological assessment that is part of the pre-sentence report.

Leaman entered the guilty plea on Jan. 29 during an arraignment hearing.

He was a councillor from 2002 to 2005, ran unsuccessfully for the mayor's chair in 2008 and for council in 2011.

He retired in October of last year from his job as a manager of Cherry Lane Shopping Centre.
