Car goes into lake

A car went into Okanagan Lake early Wednesday morning, according to the Penticton RCMP.

The police received a call shortly before 5 a.m. that the 1988 Pontiac Firebird had gone into the lake, 5 km north of Penticton on Highway 97.

The vehicle, with a male driver and female passenger, ended up five meters from the shore, two metres deep, said Cpl. Martin Trudeau.

The occupants were able to get out on their own, with their three dogs. They were taken to hospital as a precaution, but were not injured.

The driver claims it was mechanical failure that made him go into the lake.

The RCMP haven't confirmed that's the case, but left it at that.

There were no signs of alcohol and there won't be charges, said Trudeau
