6 yrs for cocaine smuggling

A Mexican national caught smuggling cocaine across the border into Canada will be spending some additional time in the great white north.

Andy Javier Garcia-Macias, who was born in 1995, has been sentenced to six years in a federal prison after being caught earlier this year near Osoyoos.

He pleaded guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking after he was found with a backpack containing nine bricks of cocaine, weighing approximately nine kilograms.

Another man who fled back to the United States was also arrested at the scene near the Boot Lake area east of Oroville.

Garcia-Macias’s full sentence will be for 2,315 days.
