Hwy. 3 reopened
Update -- May 5 10:30 a.m.
Highway 3 has been reopened to traffic following a rock slide Sunday night.
DriveBC is reporting that a geotechnical assessment will be taking place over the next two days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The road will be reduced to single lane alternating traffic, and motorists can expect five minute delays.
Keremeos Mayor Manfred Bauer said he had not heard of any inconveniences caused by the slide, west of Keremeos.
A server at the K-Cafe in Keremeos said people who couldn't get through Monday morning, stopped by the cafe, but people in general did not seem too worried.
School District 53, could not be immediately reached for comment to see if the highway closure impacted schoolchildren the morning after the slide.
The driver of the semi, hit by a boulder Sunday night, was said to be shaken up, but not injured. The semi had been removed from the scene on Monday morning.
A rock slide has closed Highway 3, in both directions, 9 km west of Keremeos.
Drive BC says they do not have an estimated time of opening, but an assessment is in progress. No detour is available.
A Castanet reader says, "A semi truck collided with a large rock, half the size of a car at approximately 9:15 p.m.; no injuries. Traffic was still able to get by, but by 10:15 p.m. a decision was made to close traffic in both directions."
The rock slide is in the same location as the slide that closed the Hwy. on Jan. 27.
We will have more details as they become available.
