Death not suspicious

According to Cst. Kris Clark, as a result of an autopsy performed Wednesday afternoon, investigators no longer consider the death of Andrew Gangl to be suspicious.

Police continue to assist the BC Coroner's Service in the investigation.

UPDATE 4:50 P.M.

RCMP are now confirming that the 24-year-old man found floating in Okanagan River was Edmonton native Andrew Scott Gangl.

Police are now asking for the public's help in solving what they have deemed a suspicious death.

The RCMP's initial investigation has revealed that Gangl was last seen walking near the Okanagan Falls Elementary school, in the area of Cedar Street in Okanagan Falls on Thursday, April 24 shortly after 7 p.m.

RCMP Cst. Kris Clark says police are looking for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts until his body was discovered the following day.

Gangl is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • 5'7" and 140 lbs with a slim build
  • Blue eyes
  • Red-blonde Hair

When he was last seen he was possibly wearing:

  • Black Chicago Blackhawks baseball hat
  • Dark coloured jacket
  • Blue Adidas runners with red stripes
  • Black backpack

Clark says an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon which they hope will provide further information regarding the cause of his death.

Investigators are also interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area of the Okanagan River, including Skaha Dam, Okanagan Falls Provincial Campground and nearby walking paths during that same time period and has not yet been spoken to by police.

Friends on social media say the body found in OK Falls was that of 24-year-old Andrew Gangl, from Edmonton.

People have been posting photos and sending messages of condolences over Facebook since Sunday.

Comments like “Wow...Crazy R.I.P. Gangle,” “My Prayers are with you Andrew Gangl” and “RIP Gangl.”

Gangl also wrote on Facebook on April 21 saying that he was enjoying Easter weekend in the Okanagan.

On April 25, at 9 a.m., the Penticton RCMP received a report that a body was floating in the river.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday the police had not officially released the name of the deceased.

The RCMP are continuing their investigation this week, including using divers and a police dog near where the body was located.
