Apex fire cause determined

The BC Safety Authority has determined the cause of a fire on the triple chairlift at Apex Mountain Resort last month.

According to Passenger Ropeways Safety Manager, Jason Gill, the fire was the result of a main diesel drive engine failure.

Twelve people were evacuated from the chairlift.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The chairlift was closed for the balance of the ski season while the BC Safety Authority conducted its investigation.

The hill is now closed for the season.
