New tourism leader
The Tourism Penticton Society has announced Max Picton will be the chair of 2014's board of directors.
Picton is currently the co-owner of the Barefoot Beach Resort.
He is a recent top 40 under 40 recipient from the Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce, and in 2012 was honoured with the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Picton said he was excited to take this on.
"As someone who has grown up here, I have a strong sense of community and good understanding of the stakeholders who've played an important role in making Penticton such an outstanding year round destination," he said.
Raised in the city, Picton has been immersed in the tourism industry since childhood through his family's operation of the South Beach Gardens Campground and Edgewater Motel.
Most recently, he brought Barefoot Beach, a unique yurt resort, to the south end of the city.
Picton will fill the currently-vacant Penticton Indian Band appointed seat on the 11 member volunteer board and joins the board as chair effective immediately.
