The CEO for Jump on Flyaways hopes to soon offer weekend flights between Calgary and Penticton.
Roger Jewett said right now they are offering three flights, from Calgary to Penticton, Calgary to Vancouver and Edmonton to Vancouver.
The one to Penticton is for May 2 to 4. The trade off being they need enough people to make the flight a go.
"We need 60 people for that one to go," he said. "Our goal is if the demand is there, we will do multiple flights from Calgary to Penticton."
The May weekend is a package deal with the Penticton Lakeside Resort. It includes a two night hotel stay, plus a wine tour Saturday afternoon.
Calgary-based Jump on Flyaways has been around for just over a year. It started when they realized a number of charter airlines, which fly people from Calgary and Edmonton up to the oil fields, were not being used on the weekends.
So the company negotiated to contract this aircraft for weekend getaways.
The flights typically depart Friday night and return Sunday night. The aircraft and crew stay at the destination over the weekend.
"The great part about this is consumer flights are typically the highest priced at popular times,"said Jewett. "But we've been able to offer convenient departure times at a low price."
So far, they have done two flights to Vancouver, two to Las Vegas and two to Kelowna in 2013.
Jewett said he has been working with Tourism Penticton, to promote the package.
"It's such a beautiful area," he said. "And we are really looking forward to having regular flights."
