Shuttle planned from Osoyoos to YLW

The South Okanagan Ground Transportation Advisory committee is seeking proposals for a year-round daily transportation service between Osoyoos and Kelowna International Airport.

Scheduled stops would be at Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, Penticton Regional Airport, Okanagan Falls and Oliver, with a return trip

"Ultimately we are trying to be a catch service for all residents in the South Okanagan, Similkameen and areas east to Rock Creek," said Robert Linttell, acting chair of the committee.

The plan was originally initiated by the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce.

In September 2013, a meeting was held in Penticton inviting stakeholders to discuss the initiative of creating a reliable daily shuttle service that would run between Osoyoos and the airport in Kelowna.

The initiative looked at having a schedule suited to public demand, comfortable Greyhound style motor coaches and reasonable fares in order to attract ridership.

From the 40 people who attended the meeting, the seven person advisory committee was created.

Should the service be implemented, it would provide up to a potential eight trips per day on the route for those needing transportation for a variety of reasons, including airport access, medical and business appointments, as well as student and worker transportation.

The closing date for proposals is April 15. The hope is to have the plan developed and placed into operation by June 2, 2014.
