Pepper spray used in ATM robbery

Osoyoos RCMP are investigating a robbery at the Spirit Ridge Resort that saw one person pepper sprayed and an ATM machine stolen from the lobby.

The incident happened early Friday morning, around 4 a.m.

Two men forced their way into the main lobby of the resort and pepper sprayed a night watchman, forcing that person outside for air. The thieves are then believed to have loaded the ATM onto a dolly to make their escape.

The watchman was blinded and unable to see how the men got away, but the ATM was later found some distance away. It is not known how much money was taken.

“Still have very limited details to release at this point but I can confirm we are investigating the theft of an ATM machine from Spirit Ridge and have obtained video surveillance which shows two suspects enter the lobby through the front doors,” says Cpl. Jason Bayda.

“We are currently working on identifying those involved.”
