Series of crashes in the South Okanagan

South Okanagan Traffic Services responded to a rollover on Highway 3, just east of the Nighthawk Junction Thursday morning.

At around 10:30 a.m. an eastbound vehicle entering a curve on the highway near the junction lost control on the curve and rolled into the north ditch.

The male and female in the 2006 Kia Sorento were uninjured and were not taken to hospital.

The rollover took place in a shaded part of the highway that tends to ice up. Sgt. Harold Hallett said that may have been a factor but it is not confirmed at this time.

A second incident took place at the same location, when another vehicle, a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta lost control on the curve and hit the police car that responded to the rollover.

The 56-year-old female driver from Cawston and male passenger were transported for treatment to the Keremeos Diagnostic and Treatment Centre.

The police officer in the car at the time of the second accident was not injured.

Hallett said he did not have an update on the condition of the people in the second car.

"This is unusual, but it can happen," he said. "We don't usually get police cars hit at scenes."
