Number crunching in Naramata

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will hold an open house Wednesday, Jan. 22, to introduce Area E residents to the 2014 operating budget.

The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. at the Naramata Old Age Pensioner's Building, at Third and Ritchie.

It is expected to include a presentation from the regional district's finance team focused on tax requisitions, services and user fees specific to the area.

Residents will be invited to comment on the budget and ask the finance team and area director questions.

Information materials will also be made available.

General budget documents are also available for review on the RDOS website.

The RDOS has proposed a 4.85 per cent tax increase from 2013, in order to cover expenses.

The decision was reached during the first reading of the 2014 operating budget in December.

Ratepayers could see a different increase in their tax requisition, because what they pay will be determined by the services in which they participate.

The Naramata meeting is one of several public budget meetings being held throughout the regional district in January and February.

The budget bylaw will go before the regional board for second and third readings in mid-March. The process must be completed no later than March 31, 2014.
