Wiens still dealing with breach charge
The former Summerland RCMP officer now serving a life sentence for shooting his common law wife Lynn Kalmring, continues to deal with a breach charge from behind bars.
On Monday, Gregory Wiens appeared by video in a Penticton courtroom to deal with matters related to breaching his bail in January of 2012.
Wiens had been released on a recognizance of bail on Aug. 30, 2011 with various conditions after he was charged with the Aug. 16, 2011 death of Kalmring.
He was ordered to live with his brother, but the brother moved away in October. The Penticton RCMP subsequently made the arrest for the breach, and Wiens has been in custody since.
It was determined Monday that witnesses in his trial on the breach matter will appear by video.
The trial itself has been adjourned, and Wiens' next appearance will be Jan. 10 by video to deal with the appointment of legal counsel for him.
On Monday, he represented himself in court before Judge Meg Shaw.
Wiens, who was found guilty in July of the second degree murder of Kalmring, is also fighting his conviction.
