Early morning trailer fire
A travel trailer, apparently unoccupied, burned down in Penticton Saturday morning.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and it is believed that no one was living there.
Nearby residents report flames shooting as high as 20 feet.
"I was watching TV at the time and it sounded as if a train was rolling down the street," said neighbour Kevin Snider. "I looked out the window and thought, "that's strange, when did it start snowing?" I then realized that the flakes were glowing orange and were actually burning embers."
Strong winds brought about the possibility of the fire spreading to other homes, and Kevin was asked by first responders to collect some belongings in case of evacuation.
Fortunately, the blaze was extinguished.
According to Kevin the RV had been sitting on the vacant property for close to a year, vandalized with spray paint and windows broken.
"Old vehicles, trailers, and boats come and go from the site as well," he said. "It's really not surprising this (suspicious) fire happened. It was only a matter of time."
The fire department is investigating the cause.
