Naramata fire hall under construction

Firefighters with the Naramata Fire Rescue Department  are currently working out of a modular trailer behind the fire hall, as the building undergoes restoration work.

In recent weeks there was water damage to the building's crawl space, which started lifting the flooring.

"We basically have 28 firefighters working in a shoebox," said Fire Chief Tony Trovao. "So basically it's an inconvenience."

Currently the work entails checking for mould and the restoration, he said.

There is no timeline on when the work will be completed, but it does look fixable.

"It's just a matter of procedure, for getting the water damage cleared up," he said.

Trovao cannot recall another time when the hall, built in the mid 1990s on Debeck Road, had to undergo work of this type.

Meanwhile, it's  business as usual for the fire department.

"We are still all set for everything, just working out of a trailer for now," said Trovao.
